Our Services

The service provided is tailored to the organisations strategic requirements and can best be summarised by client type: We also have an unrivalled network of strategic thinkers in the healthcare industry that are prepared to be part of our team where we think they will add value. This network consists of senior executives, academics, clinicians and policy analysts who are pleased to form part of the HPL team.

Public Sector Payors/Commissioners
We work with Commissioners of healthcare to help them respond to the challenge of being world – class. We do this through working with top teams to better understand where resources are being utilised and how those resources could be targeted to deliver improvements in health status and driving out efficiencies.

We also bring our deep domain knowledge of the independent sector in healthcare to assist with contract negotiations between public sector payors/commissioners and private sector healthcare operators.

Public Sector Providers
We recognise the need to respond to changes in healthcare delivery and medical technology and the impact this is having on the configuration of services. We work with top teams to help them think through the impact of such changes and how they can change their organisation to be best placed to meet the needs of commissioners and ultimately patients. This often involves difficult and sensitive decisions to be taken around reconfiguration of services which requires a balance to be reached between political, financial and clinical drivers. Getting key opinion formers particularly clinicians behind such decisions is a critical part of our approach.

Along with changes in service delivery come changes in the infrastructure required to deliver new models of healthcare and with major service reconfiguration there is the need also to focus on estate reconfiguration. We have amongst our team, leaders in the field of healthcare infrastructure with direct experience of major healthcare infrastructure projects including the introduction of new models of joint ventures and procurement which focus on capital investment and getting value from existing estate.

We have helped NHS Trusts in the UK to radically think through their service offering and respond to clinical drivers for change. This has led to new models of care with specialties being reconfigured to offer hospital and community care and joint ventures being developed between NHS Trusts and the independent sector.

Private Sector Payors/Insurers
The health insurance market is having to change in response to the availability of new treatments and increase in life expectancy. This is forcing insurers to develop new products and to have better data on actuarial risks so that informed decisions on products and pricing can be taken. We have worked with insurers to help develop partnerships with providers (private and public sector) which focus on the management of certain conditions, particularly cancer, which has led to improved product, higher consumer satisfaction and managed costs.

We believe that there will be further opportunities for partnerships between insurers and providers along a managed care model; with its experienced team HPL can act as a bridge to help develop the contractual framework to make such partnerships work.

Private Sector Providers
Recently there has been active market consolidation amongst the Independent Hospital Groups with some new entrant hospital operators from overseas looking to have a platform in the UK. Our team have worked on a number of these high profile deals and have extensive experience of running the due diligence process, being part of the deal team and advising on the contractual framework to enable deals reach a successful conclusion.

We are also working with the Boards and top teams of hospital operators to help think through their strategy from market entry through to service offerings and detailed contract negotiations with payors.

Funders
Healthcare remains an attractive investment class for funders/investors. We are working with funders/investors including some of the largest private equity groups advising on potential targets, integration strategy post acquisition and undertaking detailed due diligence as part of the deal team.

Through our extensive network across the healthcare marketplace we have effected introductions between investors and the Boards of target acquisitions. This has led to our team being recognised as trusted advisors, supporting the deal process through to successful conclusion.
